Radiation Treatment Shown to Provide Significant Improvement for Inoperable Liver Cancer

Posted by Dr. John Halligan.  A study published yesterday in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association shows a significant improvement in patients survival and complete resolution of inoperable liver cancer when external beam radiation is added to standard liver directed chemotherapy. The study authors concluded: “This meta-analysis provides evidence that TACE (TransArterial ChemoEmbolization) plus RT (Radiation Therapy) compared with TACE alone significantly improved 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year survival as well as tumor CR (complete responses) and PR (partial responses) in patients with UHCC (Unresectable HepatoCellular Carcinoma) .”  Read More
